![]() Why do you come to the pub to watch the races? "Well, it's the end of the working week, and on a sunny day like this you just want to be drinking beer with your mates and watching the horses go round. Have a bet, brag about your wins and lament your losses. We have a yarn and shoot the shit about the week" | ![]() 18 October 2014; and it's Caulfield Cup day. This is raceday central at the local pub. Screens project live races from two channels, odds, results, betting and race information. There are at least 10 screens going at once. These automated TAB machines are a super addition allowing any kind of betting. | ![]() The long table seats 15-20 people and is packed on Saturday - Race day. This was taken just after the last race, dinner time for hungry punters. They all sit together, bet together, and view together. |

![]() There is a TAB machine to the left of the image, which sucks in cash and produces expensive white slips of paper for keen sports analysts. The group on the left was particularly cheerful and animated come race time. | ![]() The indoor seating directly next to the bistro and bar is reserved for night sports - NRL/AFL/NRU code die-hards have a bar beside them, a big TV and a bathroom a few steps away. On a sunny day the outdoor area is more popular. Just the weekend before a large table had accomodated the luncheon of a bloke's day out. | ![]() The outdoor smokers area is hugely popular on a sunny Saturday. Friends park themselves on stools and rotate buying a round. Everyone respects the rule to not block anyone's view of the TVs. |
